3rd Annual Wright County 4H Pigeon Race
On Sunday, July 29, 2012, the Wright County 4-H Racing Pigeon Club will liberate their Racing Homing Pigeons from a remote location near Albert Lea Minnesota. The distance is approximately 100 “air miles” to the northernmost Wright County 4-H’er’s loft. The birds will race back to their respective homes where their 4-H handler will “clock” them in. The release time will be subtracted from each birds return time to determine the results of the race. Our young racing pigeon enthusiasts spend several months raising, caring for, training, and conditioning these Feathered Thoroughbreds to fly home as fast as they can.
Awards will be given for: Fastest Speed Traveled (First, Second and Third place), Highest Percentage of Same-Day Return, and Participation. The Awards Ceremony will be Saturday August 4th on the Free Stage at the Wright County Fair. Please join us as we recognize the efforts and accomplishments of these 4Her’s and their birds. We’d enjoying sharing more about the great sport of racing pigeons with you.
The Wright County 4H Racing Pigeon Club would like to thank the members of the Crow River Flyers RPC, members of the Central Minnesota RPC, Mystery Loft, Liab Family Loft, and several area flyers for their generous donations. Also, thank you to the American Racing Pigeon Union and the Wright County Fair Board for their support.
